C&G Level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying
The role of the bricklayer is to lay bricks, blocks, and stone accurately and consistently, often to an architect’s specification. Bricklayers work inside and outside of properties, building and repairing walls as well as specialist brickwork such as chimneys, fireplaces, and decorative work.
WHY CHOOSE THIS COURSE?
This course is designed to prepare students to be ‘work ready’, creating a ‘real world’ bricklaying experience delivered by passionate individuals with many years’ experience in the trade. Students will be taught in first-class, industry-standard workshops, building training walls and a multitude of other structures, alongside studying how the construction industry operates in well-equipped classrooms and computer suites. Practical sessions are delivered in simulated working environments with professional tools and equipment to make study as close to a real working environment as possible. To bolster progression the College works with local employers who contribute to training delivery. Employers will provide demonstrations, talks and where possible work placements.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?
This one-year full-time qualification covers the wide range of skills and knowledge required to work as a Bricklayer. Students will learn about the industry including the principles of constructing buildings and the information used in building design and construction. Health, safety and environmental issues faced on construction sites will also be covered along with how to communicate with others and supervisory skills such as planning, organising and pricing work. Students will gain knowledge and skills for assessment across the following modules:
- Health and Safety
- Principles of the Industry
- Building Solid Walling, Isolated and Attached Piers
- Interpreting Working Drawings to Set-Out Masonry Structures
- Construct Cavity Walling Forming Masonry Structures
WHERE WILL IT TAKE ME?
Achievement of this qualification demonstrates that students have the necessary technical skills and knowledge employers are looking for when recruiting a Bricklayer. It will allow students to progress into employment and enhance the skills and knowledge gained. Students can also progress to a Level 3 Diploma in Bricklaying or a T Level in Construction.
ASSESSMENT ARRANGEMENTS
End Point Assessment will consist of the following measures of knowledge and competence:
- Knowledge Test
- Practical Assessment
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Students will require a Grade 2 in English & Maths at GCSE and a keen interest in construction with a good work ethic.
Students must be able to work alone, as part of a team and demonstrate commitment to the course.
INFORMATION & SUPPORT
The College provides all of the tools and materials for the course, however you will be responsible for your own PPE and will be required to come equipped with a pair of steel toe capped boots and a pair of safety glasses.
