WHAT WILL I LEARN?
You will learn all about the different elements of Site Carpentry, enabling you to perform to the expected level within industry. The units are designed so that you learn the practical skills involved as well as getting an overview of how a construction site is run, including the rules and regulations. Building sites are very strictly controlled, so it’s important that you learn about building regulations. You will take six compulsory units including:
- Constructing cut roofing
- Fitting doors, windows and fittings
- Fixing stairs with turns
- Principles of maintenance and repairs
- Principles of organising, planning and pricing construction work.
The College works with local employers who contribute to the knowledge and delivery of this training. Employers will provide demonstrations and talks on the industry and where possible work placements will also be provided.
WHERE WILL IT TAKE ME?
Completion of the Level 3 Diploma in Site Carpentry can be the doorway to many other routes within the construction profession. Options to study further would include routes to a higher level qualification such as a Higher National Certificate, Higher National Diploma or a Higher Apprenticeship.
You will be able to complete specialist, complex tasks, either on a construction site, commercial or domestic premises. You may also become self-employed working as a sub-contractor, as this is a popular route within industry.
Entry Requirements
You need to have achieved a Level 2 Diploma in Site Carpentry and have a GCSE Grade 3 in English and Maths. You must have a keen interest in construction and a good work ethic. You must be able to work alone and as part of a team and demonstrate commitment to the course.
Additional INFORMATION
We provide all of the tools and materials for the course. However, you will be responsible for your own PPE and will be required to come equipped with a pair of steel toe capped boots and a pair of safety glasses.
