Calum – FdSc Cyber Security

The outstanding part of Calum's journey so far, he says, has been: "The people I have been able to meet from staff to students. It's really been a highlight and the support I have had from both has been paramount."

"Every aspect of University life, course and career prospects have vast resources to access."

Course: Access to Comupting & IT and FdSc Cyber Security

My Story:

After completing the Access to HE Computing course at Truro & Penwith College,  Calum chose to continue his progression to Higher Education studies at the University Centre Truro & Penwith as he was already aware the supportive staff and was familiar with the campus. He is now in Year 2 studying FdSc Cyber Security and plans to continue his studies with the BSc (Hons) Applied Computer Technologies.

Calum said: “The best thing about the course is the chance to learn from amazing individuals who have worked in the industry.”

“Class sizes are very small allowing for great support networks. Staff and tutors are happy to be there for you even if it’s not course related. Also, the flexible structure of the course is perfect allowing time for life outside of Uni too.”

“Studying my Access course helped me to discover which path to follow. The course builds in-depth knowledge and gives foundations relating to industry practice. Every aspect of the course allows for real world applications.”

“I’m proud of my achievements and of being both Student Rep and a Student Ambassador. The Student Ambassador role has allowed meto be involved in events and to work helping guide other students.”

For anyone wanting to follow in Calum’s footsteps he says: “Do what you enjoy not what you think you ought to! Deciding on what you really want to make of your life is scary! You may not know what to do and that is OK. Be patient with yourself and trust yourself.”
