Budding Biochemistry student Ben will continue his studies at Oxford University, after studying four top A Levels at Truro College.

Ben is currently studying A Level Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths, four subjects that complement each other well. Ben explains: “I like how they interlink, they’re all very related. I like how studying one A Level helps with the other three.”

Talking about why he chose Truro College, Ben praises the quiet study spaces on Campus: “The College has lots of resources, I like the study centres, there’s a big variety.

“It was a college that I knew about previously, I’ve been to other Colleges but this one was bigger – it was the main destination for all the people from my school.”

Outside of his studies, Ben enjoys rubix cubing, chess and has previously played several sports including football, rugby, and basketball.

Ben’s lecturers initially encouraged him to sign up for Oxbridge support, and Ben is full of praise for all their efforts in helping him secure his place to study Biochemistry.

Ben said: “My lecturers encouraged me to sign up [for Oxbridge support], which is the first step to apply there. They helped me with my personal statement, my tutor especially helped a lot.

“I had a mentor from Penwith College for Biology and Biochemistry, and they helped write the personal statement.”

Ben’s advice to any prospective students is to always push themselves to try harder – he uses taking on four challenging A Levels as an example.
