Name: Reece
Course: Move On with Multiply
Job Role: Stock Controller in Procurement
Employer: Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust
Reece recently celebrated an important achievement – passing his Level 2 Functional Skills Maths qualification. With the guidance of the Multiply team, Reece was able to boost his maths skills and see new career prospects on the horizon.
Like many, Reece had his reservations about maths. His school experience had left him feeling that maths was a subject where he would always come up short, and the idea of returning to a classroom didn’t exactly add up to a positive experience. “I was nervous and worried,” he recalled. “I had no confidence in myself when it came to numbers.”
Reece heard about the ‘Move On with Multiply’ course through a work email. The programme offered him the opportunity to sharpen his maths skills and prepare him to take a Level 2 Functional Skills Maths course.
As a stock controller responsible for managing and ordering stock, Reece knew that improving his maths skills would be a real asset in his day-to-day work and future job opportunities within the NHS. “I decided to sign up because I wanted to further my career options,” he said.
Though Reece was hesitant about stepping back into a classroom environment, he credits the Multiply team for changing his outlook and making all the difference. “They had such a brilliant and relaxed way of teaching and made tricky concepts easier to understand,” he explained. “It totally changed my perspective on learning, and maths!”
The support Reece received from Multiply helped him to break down problems that once seemed insurmountable. “For the first time, it felt like I wasn’t just going through the motions – I was really getting it,” he commented. Slowly but surely, Reece found himself solving problems and feeling less like he was stuck in a numerical maze.
Once he had completed the course, Reece felt a great sense of pride. “I’m happy and proud of what I managed to achieve, especially considering how much I struggled with maths back in school,” he shared. The course wasn’t just about passing an exam; it was about finally feeling like he had the tools to approach maths with confidence.
With his qualification in hand, Reece feels more confident in both his skills and his career prospects. “It has opened up my career options within the NHS, which is exactly what I was hoping for,” he explained.
The qualification was more than just a tick in a box; it was a stepping stone towards future opportunities, and Reece knows it will be a valuable asset as he progresses in his role.
Looking back, Reece is grateful for the support he received from the Multiply team. “Classroom environments have always been tough for me but Angie, Asun, and Liam made it a completely different experience,” he recalled. “They helped me focus and feel comfortable.”
Reece’s journey is proof that, with the right teaching approach and some encouragement, you can flip the script on your weaknesses. “Maths used to feel like a jumble of numbers I couldn’t organise,” Reece admitted. “Now I feel like I’m the one in control, and that feels amazing.”
