My Story

Freya began her journey at Truro College studying a Level 2 Certificate in Women’s Hairdressing with a work placement at Number 8 Hairdressing in Truro.

“I took an interest in hairdressing from a young age”, Freya explained. “I was always the one my friends came to when wanting their hair done. When I left school, I decided to follow my dream and pursue a career in hairdressing.

“I started studying full time at Truro College. As part of the course, you are required to find a work placement for one day a week. I was lucky enough to secure a placement with Number 8 Hairdressing Salon in Truro, who are known for providing excellent training skills and work experience.

“Having my work placement in a salon gave me real life experience of what hairdressing is like and I was desperate to spend more time in a salon environment.”

Within a few months of beginning her course, Freya was offered an apprenticeship with Number 8 Hairdressing.

“Being a full time Apprentice allowed me to rapidly and practically develop my skill set whilst being fully supported and working with a team of people who shared the same passion.”

Freya praises the College for giving her the confidence to thrive in the salon environment: “Truro College gives you the opportunity to learn using the latest techniques and technology; it provides a training ground where you can develop skills. Truro College helped me gain my confidence in dealing with clients, and my experience at Truro College gave me the building blocks to get to where I am today.

“I am now a qualified Hairdresser working as a Junior Hair Stylist at Number 8 Hairdressing and continue to learn and develop every day.”

Freya’s advice for anyone considering an apprenticeship is: “Believe in yourself and take every opportunity to practice and learn new skills”.
